Worlds of Photojournalism

New World of Journalism blog up and running.

World Photojournalism Photojournalizing the world around us with pictures and words is now up and running.

Started this new blog on the server I use because of the slowness of WordPress.com.   Saving a post, publishing all takes many minutes each here.

The BIG advantage of using WordPress.com is that the posts are found in Google in a few minutes or hours.

The BIG disadvantage with the new blog setup is it can take weeks or months to get the World Photojournalism blog indexed in Google.

Setting up the blog was simple enough to do.   It seemed to use Ping-o-matic and automagically ping places but …   Google did not index anything here in the last 24 plus hours whereas like I said the same post here will show up in the Google index pronto.

There are several things to note that need to be accomplished when setting up this new blog like:

What is the RSS feed address at the new site?  A search on Google showed me that the address is http://www.idowebs.com/blogs/tomh/wp-rss.php and not like http://xxxx.wordpress.com/feed

Since nothing from the blog is indexed in Google yet, I did a little searching online about getting a blog indexed in Google.   Turns out the webmaster tools at Google are impotant.  I thought everything from the root was being indexed by one sitemap at Google?  Got me?   I finally added the blog to the webmaster tools and in the main dashboard it says it is verified.  I uploaded the google.html file and Google could not find it even if I can from the link in the webmaster tools verification area.

So, there is a sitemap in the root and one in the blog directory and a google.html file.  Now wait and see?

Went to the Google Add your blog to Blog Search and inserted the Wold Photojournalism blog address.  Maybe Google will find the site from that?

Writing this article in the hopes Google will find the blog address.

Will also make a link to the new blog setup in the from the main page here.

Then wait and see if I need to do more to get indexed within my lifetime.
